On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month. It’s also a good topic for folks doing our Page Per Day Journaling.
Many of us are currently on some form of lockdown, and the days are already starting to feel same-y. To add variety and avoid the day-after-day blur, set yourself a new focus for each week. Give yourself a goal and a deadline: by the end of each week you will have accomplished X.
By focusing on something new every week, you will give yourself a short deadline for each new focus. This allows you to mix it up and try something new every few days, while still giving yourself time to accomplish a goal.
It’s a great time to branch out and explore interests you never normally have the time or attention for.
Here are some examples:
- Cooking/ baking: 3 new recipes
- Painting/ sketching/ new art techniques: complete a new piece
- Learn how to play a new piece of music
- Write a short story
- Read those books you’ve been meaning to get to
- Try a new form of exercise (check out videos online!)
You can do something new each week even if you are working from home. For example, my husband is on video calls for most of the day. Between calls he does pushups, with the goal of doing a certain number each day and a total by the end of the week. He keeps a tally in his notebook so he can keep track of his daily totals.
Having a new focus each week will help break up the month, keep you engaged, and keep you motivated to explore your interests.
Make a list of what interests you will focus on each week this month. Near the end of the month we will check in and see how you are doing!
