On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month. It’s also a good topic for folks doing our Page Per Day Challenge.
The theme for this month is calm. I can hear you snort in derision and say, “Yeah, right!” December tends to be frantic with preparations for the holidays, events, and trying to finish up work before the holiday break. But hear me out.
The holidays are supposed to be about peace and thoughtfulness. Somewhere in the whirlwind of decorating and gift buying, incessant ads for gift ideas and alluring sales, the basis of the season is still there.
Even when you do embrace the season by getting together with family and friends, going to or participating in events, or volunteering, these bring their own stress.
This month the goal is to sift through all that and come back to the peacefulness of the season. Appreciate the joy, have fun, and let go a little bit.
I know it’s easier said than done, so here are some tips to help. Refer back to these articles for calming techniques that only take 5 minutes: 5 Minute Breaks has lots of ideas for quick breaks to help you feel better mentally and physically. Very quick and simple yet very effective meditation exercises can be done first thing in the morning and throughout the day to help calm your system and bring you back into focus. If you have more time to take longer breaks, even better. These will help you regain a calmer state of mind.
Wishing everyone Happy Holidays!
