On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month. It’s also a good topic for folks doing our Page Per Day Challenge.
You may have seen posts online about hygge, showing people cuddled up in wooly sweaters holding a steaming cup of their favorite hot beverage. Hygge is a Danish word (pronounced hoo-ga) that means a feeling of cosiness and contentedness in the simple things in life. It’s often represented as a space or things that make you feel cozy, like sitting around a fireplace, enjoying quiet time with family and friends.
This month, I want to create a feeling of mental hygge. What is the emotional version of a cup of hot chocolate or a warm blanket? What thoughts will help me feel content and cozy in my own mind?
This month I’m going to check my self-talk and focus on thoughts that help me feel grounded, safe, and serene. I’m going to continue to practice my quick meditation techniques, be mindful of staying in the present (instead of always thinking about what’s coming up next), and focus on the people I’m with. I’ve never done a word cloud before, but I think I will write one in my journal with words that make me feel warm and cozy when I read them.
What can you do to create your own state of mental hygge?
The Month Theme comes out on the first Wednesday of each month. You can see all the month themes here.
