On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month. It’s also a good topic for folks doing our Page Per Day Challenge.
This month’s theme is being truly present. This means paying attention to what is going on around you. Actively listening to people when they talk. Putting down your phone and living in the real world. Fully experiencing life.
There are huge benefits to mindfulness and being present. Not only will you engage with people in a meaningful way and experience the world, you will also remember things more. Part of remembering is effectively recalling the memory, but the other half of remembering is creating a firm memory in the first place. If you’re not really paying attention, you’re not going to remember it later.
So, fully immerse yourself in life. Use as many of your senses as you can: what does the evening air smell like? How does your food taste? Feel the sand or fresh grass under your feet. Listen to the birds singing or the sound of your friends laughing. Really look around you and notice the small details.
The more you notice and the more present you are, the more deeply you will experience life and the better you will remember it later.
The Month Theme comes out on the first Wednesday of each month. You can see all the month themes here.
