Time management Monday: Students and Teachers: Evaluate Your School Year and Plan For Next Year

Post Comment

Students and teachers, it’s time to review your school year so you can start planning for the next one! Take the opportunity to look back at your year, see what worked well, and figure out what you need to work on. Doing this now will help you be more successful next school year, and beyond. Here is a short guide:

Look back through your planner to see how you spent your time. Which activities were time well spent? What were some time wasters? How you could have better spent your time?

Which classes did you do well in? Which classes did you enjoy most? Which classes did you not do so well in? Which classes did you like the least?

Think of different aspects of your life: academics, social, volunteering, work, relationships, etc. What can you do to improve next year?

Which lessons were particularly engaging for your students? How can you do more of that?

What were some lessons that your students didn’t engage with as well? How can you improve them?

What were some ways you communicated well with your students? How could you improve your communication?

How well do you feel you balanced your teaching duties with your other responsibilities?

Now that you’ve thought through how your school year went, evaluate your satisfaction in different areas of your life.

Now decide your priorities for the upcoming year. What do you want to focus on? What do you want to do more of? Less of?

While these thoughts are still fresh in your mind, write out your goals for next school year. By doing this now, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your summer, then go back to school with your goals gameplan already set!
