On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month. It’s also a good topic for folks doing our Page Per Day Challenge.
We are swamped with social media and online “friends,” yet studies show people nowadays feel lonelier than ever. This month’s theme is connecting with real people, face to face.
It’s easier and more comfortable to interact with people through a screen. But it’s ultimately unsatisfying and doesn’t fulfill our social needs. Humans need to interact with each other, be near each other, be able to read facial and body language, and to feel like a part of the group.
This month, make plans to do things with people face to face. Meet up for coffee or dinner; have friends over; do real things together like put up a shelf or fix something. Shared experiences (REAL experiences, not online) make people feel closer.
Here are some ideas for ways to make connections in real life:
First of all, spend less time on your phone. Stop living your life through a screen, go out into the world and live for real.
Connect with people through your sense of purpose. Volunteer at a nursing home. Help a friend who is sick or going through a tough time. Reach out and see what people really need, and help them with that.
Do things with people. Go away for a weekend, or even just a day trip. Go to an event. Have a celebration. Get together to play board games or cards. Doing something interactive and memorable with help bring you together.
What are some other ways you can make real-life connections with people this month?
