On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month. It’s also a good topic for folks doing our Page Per Day Challenge.
Goal setting is a great way to try to become your best self. But it’s important to step back and be realistic about what it’s all for. Nobody exists in isolation. What we do affects other people.
For example, it’s great to set goals to find a career you find rewarding and fulfilling. But you aren’t going to earn a living just making yourself happy. You will have customers and clients that need to buy your products or services in order to have a viable business. You will have co-workers and others you will need to work with.
Whatever your goal: to complete your degree, to run a 10k, to become an entrepreneur, all of these require other people too.
These days there is a big focus on the self: bullet journaling, and journaling in general, can be very introspective. Sometimes this can border on navel-gazing, where you run the risk of having your focus become all about you.
So this month, turn your focus outward and think, What is my purpose?
What is my place in the world? How can I benefit others? How can I widen the scope of my life to have a positive effect on the world?
For more ideas, see numbers 16-17 and 23-29 in January 2019’s Daily Journaling Prompts.
I’m taking this month’s theme further and making Purpose my word of the year for 2019.
The Month Theme comes out on the first Wednesday of each month. You can see all the month themes here.
