Welcome to the fourth post in our series designed to help you do your Month Reviews in your Life Noted planner!
The Life Noted planner (in academic year or January-December formats) is designed to help you set, track, and evaluate your goals all year and incorporate your goal tasks into your everyday life. There are pages to help you do annual and monthly reviews and goal setting.
Every month when it’s time to do your Month Review in your Life Noted planner, I’ll have a new post to give you ideas on how to do the review.
Each month has a new theme. You can pick the theme you like best and do that every month, or you can do the new theme each month, or pick and choose the elements you like from each month’s theme to do your monthly review. Remember, this is all about you! Do what you find most useful.
This month our focus is Data, specifically the data associated with tracking your goals. At the end of October’s review post I gave you the heads-up to track the data associated with your goals: miles run/ cycled, hours exercised, words written, grades, etc.
Goals should be measurable, so you can see your progress. Get healthier? How do you measure that? Pounds lost, minutes faster, number of pushups/ crunches, number of fruit/veg servings or ounces of water per day: these are measurable.
This also works for mood tracking, numbers of headache days, new clients, reports completed, etc. Anything you can quantify helps you see if you have fulfilled your goals for the month or not.
Look back through your planner pages for the past month and total up your numbers. Then ask yourself:
Are your numbers what you wanted them to be this month? Where did you fall short? Where did you exceed your expectations?
Did you accomplish what you intended to this month? If so, congratulate yourself!
If not, what prevented you from reaching your goals this month?
What can you do to get around these roadblocks next month?
What do you want your numbers to look like next month? Do you want to maintain your momentum, or push yourself to improve even more?
Now that you know how you performed this month, you can adjust your expectations to see what you’ll be able to accomplish next month. Be sure to take into consideration fewer work days due to the holidays, and more challenges to get things done due to holiday events and preparations. But don’t use the holidays as an excuse to overindulge or slack off! You can still stick to your goals as long as you prioritize them and keep your focus.
The Life Noted month review posts are on the Friday of the last week of that month in your Life Noted planner, right before the monthly review pages. These are not always the last Friday of each month; they are on the Friday of the week before the start of the new month. Follow along in your Life Noted planner and you’ll find that these posts come up just when you need them! They go up on a Friday so you have all weekend to do your month review.
