On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month. It’s also a good topic for folks doing our Page Per Day Challenge.
This month’s theme is: managing stress.
August is often a time for transitions. Students are going back to school (which can be especially stressful if you are starting college or moving to a new school). Parents with kids in school are adjusting to the new busy schedule of activities and events. Even if your life doesn’t function on the school year, summer is drawing to a close and the general busy-ness of life is ramping up. Things will only get more busy from now through the end of the year!
Now is a good time to remind yourself of ways to reduce stress. Effective stress reduction methods vary for everyone and depend on your personality. One person’s way to blow off steam is another’s stress-inducer. Would you find the following situations stress reducing or inflicing?
- Going to a party/ social engagement
- Playing tennis or another competitive sport
- Going for a run/ walk/ cycle alone
- Having a day out in the city
- Having a day out in nature
You get the idea. Figure out some activities that help you reduce your stress, and write reminders to yourself in your planner to do these on a regular basis, preferably daily or at least several times per week. Write a big list of stress-reducers in your planner or notebook, or somewhere else where you can refer to it often. Add a few new things to the list to try them out!
IMPORTANT: Self-destructive activities like smoking, or eating unhealthy food, are off the list! Focus on self-care and healthy stress reduction methods.
The Month Theme comes out on the first Wednesday of each month. You can see all the month themes here.
