Month Theme for June: Transitions

Post Comment

On the first Wednesday of each month we have a post with the month’s theme. The month theme is something to think about, journal about, include in your daily intentions, and/or be mindful of all month.

June is a month full of transitions and new life situations. Students have either moved up to the next grade level, or have graduated and are facing a new stage in their lives. June is a popular month to get married, to move, or to start a new job. Some people do more than one of these this month (graduating/ starting a new job/ moving/ getting married).

Transitions are always an adjustment. Even when the change is something you have looked forward to, you are still leaving behind part of yourself and your past life.

This is one of my favorite quotes:

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another. -Anatole France

Be excited about transitions and changes, but allow yourself to feel the sadness of letting go of the past. Recognize that even when you are happy about the new things in your life, you might feel sad about what you are leaving behind. That’s okay! It’s part of life.

  1. Beautifully written! So relevant now, as I prepare for retirement; and also quite appropriate for me as an alcoholic, as I prepared to give up drinking many years ago, and felt I died a little death to self in doing so.

  2. This is so beautiful, and what I am grappling with at the moment. I think the quotation might help.

    • Thank you for your kind words Denise. I was actually tentative about posting this, because there are so many happy events that usually happen in June, I didn’t want to be a downer. But I have heard from yourself and from others that this really resonates right now, so I’m glad I posted it.
