Shopping online is fast, easy, convenient and often cheaper than going to a local retailer to buy products. It’s hard to not automatically go to Amazon to buy whatever you want or need.
I shop online, too, but I make the extra effort to shop at local retailers, especially when I’m buying books and stationery. Paper is very sensory and sensual. I like to see it, feel it, smell it, and hear the pages ripple. That experience isn’t available shopping online. All my senses weigh in on one product vs. another. Shopping online only uses sight, and it’s a very different experience when all the senses work together.
Besides a more individual shopping experience, there are other good reasons to support your local retailer:
-The personal attention you will receive. The store’s owner or manager will take the time to talk to you about what you’re looking for and offer advice
-Neighborhood stores provide much-needed jobs in the community; and support local charities, schools, groups and projects
-Independent stores offer choice and diversity in products and services
Shop online when you need to, but please shop local when you can.
