The clock is ticking on 2015. With less than two months to go until the new year, how much can you finish before then?
Whether you are trying to finish up work projects before the big holiday break, or fulfill your 2015 goals, take a realistic look at how much actual time you have left before the end of the year. January 1 sounds like a long way off, but think about how many work days there are between now and then.
Today is Monday November 9th. If you are in the USA, you have all of this week and only part of next week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The week after that we are into December and immersed in the holiday rush. At that point you’ll have 3 weeks before the holidays hit head-on. That gives you about 4 1/2 weeks of actual work time over the next two months. Yikes!
Also to consider is when students have their school breaks. Even if you don’t have children in school, your coworkers and/ or clients probably do. Factor in their absence during the school breaks, and get anything you need from them early so you can finish your part.
Take a look at your goals and tasks, and re-evaluate how much you’ll be able to realistically accomplish in 4 1/2 weeks, keeping in mind coworker/ client absences, slower travel and shipping times. If you have realistic expectations of your work volume, and let others know what to expect, you’ll be able to head off a lot of year-end stress.
