Writing Wednesday: Writing a novel one page at a time

Once upon a time

The start of NaNoWriMo is just a couple of weeks away. I’ve never participated, but I think it’s a really neat idea: people around the world commit to writing their own novel within the month of November.

That gave me an idea: how fun would it be to write a novel as part of our Page Per Day Challenge? The Challenge, for those who don’t yet know, is to write one page in a notebook or day per page planner, every day for a whole year.

By writing just one page of your novel each day, the pressure is off to be super-productive on any given day. It would be fascinating to see how the novel develops over the course of the year, one page at a time. It would probably go in unexpected directions and grow organically at that pace. By the end of the year, you would probably end up with a story you hadn’t planned from the beginning. Or would you?

Have you ever written a novel? What do you think about writing it one page at a time, every day for a whole year?

  1. I love this idea! What fun! I’m in! As a matter of fact, I chair a Writers Group and think I’ll broach this idea to everyone there!
