Writing Wednesday: Words list

Post Comment

My daughter loves to write stories, poems and song lyrics. Over the weekend she had a great idea: she created a list of words that she finds interesting or particularly descriptive to use in future writings. On her list are words like magnanimous, ubiquitious, spiteful, harmonious, illogical, wrath, sprawled, heartfelt, perspective, regenerate, and more.

She keeps these words in a little notebook with other ideas for writing, quotes and sayings. It’s like a little inspiration book. She takes it with her and jots down these things as they come to her, so that when she writes she has a treasure trove of ideas and special words to choose from.

I think this is a great idea, and I have a feeling many authors do this. Do you keep a list of words to use in your writings?
