During the average work day I constantly find myself multi-tasking–questions, phone calls, emails, multiple deadlines and to dos. However, one thing I try to discipline myself every day is to “time chunk” at least one project or task.
I find that blocking out time–even 30 minutes–helps me not only to avoid a continual “reactive” reflex to things, but also to spend quality time with an issue or research and really dig in. It also had an unexpected benefit: I build discipline by getting in the habit of demonstrating it every day in small but significant ways.
Do you “time chunk”? Any tips or techniques that you can share with us?
