Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates it!

We’ll be spending the day at home today, and enjoying not traveling! We spent 20 years traveling at Christmastime, which is never easy. When our children were babies and toddlers we did some very difficult long-haul international flights with them, and even though the traveling was stressful it was worth it. We do miss seeing family at Christmas (we live across the pond from everyone) but it is wonderful spending Christmas in our own home.

My husband loves to cook, so we’ll have a nice big meal after opening presents around the fireplace. We live in the UK where the traditional meal is turkey for Christmas dinner, but we’ll probably have lamb instead with mashed potatoes and gravy.

When I was growing up, Christmas dinner at my grandmother’s house was always chicken chow mein! I don’t know if she just wanted to be different or if it was an easier meal for her to make for a large group of people.

What are your family’s Christmas traditions?

  1. I grew up in the Philippines where turkey was not a big thing. We always had ham. To this day, any “special ” meal invariably includes ham.
