There’s something about the Habana that differentiates itself from other notebooks. It’s always on the tip of my tongue but I can’t quite pinpoint exactly what it is. It looks and feels elegant. The Habana is available in standard European sizes which makes them a bit unorthodox. They are a big taller than the comparable Rhodia Webnotebook and slimmer. I am using a lined notebook for this review one because I can’t write on blank paper and two because it’s what I own! What I like about the lines are they are not so much solid lines but rather very small light grey dots lined up. I find this method much more attractive as it almost fades into the background once I put ink to paper but still keeps me writing straight.

Quick digression, the Habana is made in the Quo Vadis plant in Hamburg, NY and while you can tell that the quality is top notch I’m not sure the deciding factor for many people is whether or not a product is made here anymore. Seems like it’s a rush for lower prices and convenience these days which is not to say anything is particularly wrong with that.

Back to the review, you can find the Habana in 3 sizes: pocket 4 x 6 3/8, A5 (roughly) 6 ¼ x 9 ¼ and A4 8 ¼ x 11 ¾. The black cover is the most striking to me. It’s basic in many ways but it has a nice sophisticated simplicity about it. This year Quo Vadis is offering 2 new colors in Turquoise and Orange. The turquoise is quite nice and soothing to look at while the orange makes me think of Rhodia which is never a bad thing.

  1. Currently, I’m using digital calendar like Google Calendar as planning system but I’m using a notebook as notes for planning system too.

  2. I love Quo Vadis day planners, but haven’t seen the Habana notebooks before. Oh the lament of few *real* stationary shops in my Cndn neck of the woods.

  3. I am completely unfamiliar with Habana. Do you know where they are sold on the Denver area? I like the looks of the Bronco orange one, in spite of the Super Bowl.

    • Hi Michele! There are a couple stores in Colorado (most are in Boulder) that carry Habana notebooks. I’m not sure if they have the Orange in stock just yet (although I’m sure if you call to ask them they’ll put in an order sooner than later!) but here are a few names to try:

      Tattered Book Cover in Denver
      Boulder Bookstore in Boulder

and European Paper Company, which is a online store only but carry a lot of Quo Vadis items including Habana, which operates out of Colorado.
