Before I met my husband, I got most of my Christmas shopping done by at least the week before. Of course, my list was smaller then; I’m an only child, and I don’t always exchange gifts with friends and cousins, so it was usually just my parents that I had to worry about.
You can see where this is headed — now that there are in-laws and nieces and nephews and a child of my own on my list, I’ve taken my husband’s lead and started leaving a number of purchases till the last minute. There are upsides and downsides to this method. On the plus side, we took a lovely drive yesterday along the Hudson, hitting a number of charming local stores along the way. On the other hand, those stores didn’t have the right thing for absolutely everyone, so I’ve still got to spend some time today thinking and running around.
