Friday is a happy day, on balance, and I was happy to see this Nation article on the “happiness industry” come up through A&L Daily. (“It doesn’t take a social scientist to see that a blizzard of how-to books on “positivity” suggests its lack in everyday life.”)
I was also happy to be reminded, through the photo that accompanied the piece, of the sculptures of Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, whose work I first saw in Vienna. The book of his “fantastic busts” is one of the few art books that survived last year’s storm, and I absolutely cherish it.
Other things I enjoyed reading this week include, belatedly, this Palimpsest report on the London Writing Equipment show and this brilliant video about procrastination (with thanks to our French blog for the link):
Have a wonderful weekend!
