Remembering Sandy

Post Comment

One year ago today, we took the long route from New Jersey, where we’d spent our mandatory evacuation, back to Brooklyn, where it quickly became obvious that the storm was every bit as devastating as the worst sporadic reports suggested.

I spent the next two weeks cleaning, couch surfing, and packing what remained of our stuff into storage. To this day, because we were without power for so long, I still have only a vague sense of how other areas experienced the storm (fire in Breezy Point, devastation on the Jersey shore). So it’s with fresh interest and the comfort of a bit of hindsight that I click through various memorial pieces — not just to remember what happened in Red Hook but to learn what others really went through.

Were you impacted by the storm?
