There’s quite a bit of military history in my new hometown, Piermont. George Washington stayed here, as he did in many houses in the area, during the Revolutionary War; he met British General Sir Guy Carleton at an old Dutch sandstone to discuss the end of the war. The town’s pier served as a point of departure for thousands of soldiers during World War II.
So while we’re just beginning to set down roots, it was nice to be reminded of that past with this Memorial Day tribute to local soldiers. There’ll be a parade later on, as well.
