I’m an equal opportunity notebook fan, but thanks to Karen’s unflagging generosity, my husband has gotten hooked on the large lined No. 18 Rhodia pads. He tried to pretend otherwise, but when he ran out of them recently and realized I didn’t have any extras, he looked a little doubtful.
“I guess I can go back to the legal pads they have at the office.”
Of course, the stationer’s fairy godmother soon came to the rescue, but it prompted me to recall the dark, pre-Exaclair days of uncertain quality and provenance. Though I don’t regularly consume expensive bottles of wine, I do remember the first time I tried one: it was really good. Good stationery, at least, is a modestly priced indulgence.
